Stores Specialists Inc. (SSI), the retail arm of the SSI Group, announced it will cease operations of Marks & Spencer in the Philippines, with the final day of store operations set for 2 May 2026.
In a clarification issued in response to a recent news article, SSI confirmed that it will wind down the British retailer’s operations in the country after nearly four decades in the local market.
The first Marks & Spencer store in the Philippines opened almost 40 years ago. Under SSI’s stewardship, the brand became part of the country’s retail landscape, offering British apparel, food, and lifestyle products to Filipino consumers.
“This has not been an easy decision,” management said. “Building Marks & Spencer in the Philippines has been a meaningful and rewarding chapter for our organization. We are deeply grateful to our loyal customers, dedicated employees, and partners who have supported the brand through the decades.”
SSI said evolving consumer tastes and shopping behaviors prompted the decision, noting that it is both prudent and necessary to channel resources toward brands aligned with the current and future direction of the market.
“Retail is constantly transforming. Change is inevitable, tastes evolve, and therefore so should we,” management added. “We remain committed to the constant strengthening of our portfolio and delivering experiences that resonate with today’s consumers.”
The company said it will work closely with employees, partners, and stakeholders to ensure a responsible and respectful transition as operations wind down.
Further details regarding timelines, promotions, and customer advisories leading up to 2 May 2026 will be communicated in due course.
