The Philippine National Police arrested a 40-year-old male suspect linked to a hit-and-run incident that led to the discovery of an unlicensed firearm and illegal drugs worth P510,000 in Carmona City, Cavite.
PNP chief Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the suspect was apprehended by personnel of the Carmona City Police Station after he collided with a motorcycle along Governors Drive in Barangay Mabuhay at around 10:17 p.m. on 22 February 2026.
The suspect initially fled the scene but was intercepted in front of a BPI branch along Governors Drive in Barangay Maderan, General Mariano Alvarez, Cavite.
Upon inspection, authorities recovered a 9mm Bersa Thunder Ultra Compact handgun, 22 live rounds of ammunition, 11 heat-sealed sachets of suspected methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu weighing about 75 grams with an estimated street value of P510,000, a digital weighing scale, a glass tube and other paraphernalia.
All items were inventoried and secured under proper chain-of-custody procedures.
“The hit-and-run combined with the illegal possession of a firearm and drugs shows how dangerous one person can be to the community. Our officers acted immediately to prevent further harm,” Nartatez said.
He said the operation reflects the PNP’s commitment to proactive law enforcement under its Focused Agenda, particularly in enhancing police operations through thorough investigation, timely pursuit and proper seizure of illegal items while ensuring public safety.
“The recovery of the shabu and unlicensed gun during the pursuit highlights the seriousness of the offense. Criminal acts will always meet the full force of the law,” Nartatez said. “Ang ginawa ng ating kapulisan ay patunay na hindi natin hahayaan malagay sa panganib ang mga tao sa kalsada dahil sa iresponsableng pagmamaneho. Tinitiyak din natin ang proteksyon ng publiko laban sa ilegal na droga at armas,” he added.
The suspect remains in the custody of the Carmona City Police Station as authorities prepare documents for filing before the Office of the City Prosecutor.
