Philips recently introduced the EasyKey 720, a simplified, competitively priced smart lock designed to make home security more accessible. More than a standard door lock, the EasyKey 720 offers multi-layered protection and surveillance features aimed at enhancing both convenience and homeowner confidence.
After about a month of installation at the DAILY TRIBUNE headquarters, the DT team noted how easy day-to-day use has been despite its advanced features.
“After a bit of a learning curve, I find it pretty easy [to use],” said DAILY TRIBUNE online head Carl Magadia.
“The palm and fingerprint scanning are seamless, and it didn’t take that long to add [my biometrics].”
Once installed, the device offers a straightforward setup process. Users connect the lock to their home WiFi and manage its features through the Philips Home Access mobile application.
The EasyKey 720 integrates biometric authentication options such as palm-vein recognition and fingerprint scanning, allowing users to unlock doors through a simple hand wave or touch. The system can store up to 50 palm prints and 100 fingerprint profiles, all manageable through the mobile app.
For DAILY TRIBUNE director of Production Duane Villanueva, the added layers of security bring peace of mind at the end of the workday.
“We have a lot of equipment and hold a lot of important meetings in that room. I think the Philips [EasyKey 720] adds a deeper sense of security, lalo na when we go home for the day. Alam ko safe talaga,” he said.
For additional protection, the smart lock includes a digital PIN keypad supporting six- to 12-digit personal codes, along with two compact key cards and a traditional manual key for backup access during technical issues.
The device also features a built-in CCTV camera that allows homeowners to monitor visitors remotely. Real-time alerts are sent through the Philips Home Access app whenever someone rings the doorbell or enters the home.
Inside, a bolt lock mechanism can be activated via a manual switch for added security.
The EasyKey 720 runs on a proprietary rechargeable battery that lasts up to three months on a full charge, with charging taking approximately three hours.
DT’s IT team said recharging from full discharge was relatively easy, noting that the doorknob can be powered using a power bank and a USB-C cable long enough to reopen the door should the battery be fully drained.
Meanwhile, TRIBUNE online editor Vivienne Angeles said the lock’s range of features makes it an attractive option. “Sobrang cool ng palmprint scanner, tapos pwede pa ako mag-check kung sino dumadaan sa bahay ko kahit wala ako doon,” she said.
Installation services start at around P1,500 within Metro Manila, and the product comes with a two-year warranty.
Philips products such as the EasyKey 720 are available at the L Smart Lounge at GH Mall and Ayala Malls Solenad. Philips items are also available online via the Larx Trading website and the Philips Home Access Flagship Store on Lazada.
