The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced Saturday that its Women and Children Protection Center (WCPC) successfully rescued 18 minors in three separate operations across Luzon and Mindanao from 18 to 19 February.

The WCPC said these operations reflect the PNP’s intensified campaign against Online Sexual Abuse and Exploitation of Children, Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation Materials and Trafficking in Persons, demonstrating the organization’s commitment to its Focused Agenda through Enhanced Managing Police Operations.

In Leyte, a joint implementation of a Warrant to Search, Seize and Examine Computer Data led to the arrest of a Filipina suspect in Abuyog.

The operation stemmed from a prior case involving a 50-year-old Norwegian national, who had been arrested for possession of child sexual abuse materials. Forensic analysis of his device revealed online communications, explicit content and financial transactions linked to the local suspect.

Authorities recovered multiple digital devices, including mobile phones and a tablet, as well as non-digital evidence. Seven children were safely rescued and placed under protective custody for psychosocial assessment and care. Barangay officials were present, and body-worn cameras were used to ensure transparency.

A day later in Cagayan de Oro City, WCPC operatives rescued a female minor following a referral from the Philippine Internet Crimes Against Children Center, in coordination with international law enforcement partners. The child was immediately turned over to the City Social Welfare and Development Office for proper intervention, with a video in-depth disclosure interview underway to support the ongoing case.

Meanwhile, in Tanauan City, Batangas, a rescue operation by WCPC units and local police, coordinated with the City Social Welfare and Development Office, led to the recovery of 10 minors believed to be victims of human trafficking. They are now under protective custody, undergoing documentation and intervention to ensure their safety and recovery.

PNP Chief P/Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. commended the operating units and partner agencies for their swift, child-centered response. He stressed the organization’s unwavering commitment:

“The protection of our children is non-negotiable. We will not stop protecting them and seeking justice for the victims.”

Nartatez emphasized that the campaign goes beyond arrests:

“Our priority is always the safety and recovery of the victims. We ensure that rescued children are immediately placed under proper care. At the same time, we build strong cases against perpetrators. This is part of our PNP Focused Agenda — enhancing how we manage police operations so our response is faster, smarter and more compassionate.”

He also urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant:

“We encourage families to monitor gadgets, know who their children are talking to online, and report any suspicious activity. If something seems wrong, report it immediately. The PNP is here to help.”

These operations underscore the PNP’s commitment to safeguarding minors while holding perpetrators accountable.
