DAVAO CITY — Separate landslides triggered by continuous heavy rainfall killed seven people across two provinces in the Davao region, local officials confirmed Friday.
In Davao de Oro, the Monkayo municipal government reported that a father and his two sons died when a landslide struck at 11:40 p.m. Thursday.
Local officials expressed deep sorrow and assured the surviving family members of continued assistance while urging residents in high-risk areas to remain vigilant.
In Mati City, Davao Oriental, authorities confirmed the deaths of a family of four in Upper Salazar, Barangay Central. City officials advised residents to monitor their surroundings and check weather updates from authorized agencies as the region continues to experience hazardous conditions.
The Philippine Army’s 10th Infantry Division has mobilized its humanitarian assistance and disaster response units to assist with preemptive evacuations and road-clearing operations.
According to military reports, 11 landslides and 53 flooding incidents have been recorded across Davao Oriental, Davao de Oro, Agusan del Sur, and Surigao del Sur.
Disaster response teams have already cleared nine landslide-affected areas to restore mobility and ensure the delivery of aid. Two areas remain only partially passable as clearing operations continue.
Military officials reported that 1,139 individuals are currently staying in designated evacuation centers within the division’s area of responsibility.
Meantime, local government units continue to remind residents to follow warnings from village officials and evacuate immediately if their areas become unstable.
