Top juniors converge for Uswing qualifiers

The country’s top young golfers will converge at Luisita Golf and Country Club in Tarlac this March for the Uswing Mojing Junior World Qualifiers, following a new partnership between the National Golf Association of the Philippines (NGAP) and the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines (JGFP).

The boys’ qualifying event is scheduled on 15 to 17 March, while the girls’ qualifying will be played 27 to 29 March, both on Luisita’s demanding championship layout.

Slots to the Uswing Mojing Junior World Championships in San Diego, California, are at stake, giving Filipino juniors a direct pathway to one of the largest and most internationally diverse junior golf events in the world.

According to NGAP secretary-general Bones Floro, the qualifiers will offer four slots each for the boys’ and girls’ divisions in the 15–18 age category. The younger age brackets — 9–10, 11–12 and 13–14 — will each have three slots available per gender, ensuring wide representation of Filipino talent across multiple divisions at the Uswing Mojing Junior World.

JGFP president Oliver Gan said the partnership with NGAP and the chance to run the Uswing qualifiers are very much in line with the foundation’s mission.

“This is the call of the junior golfers, and we shall do it for the kids,” Gan said, stressing that every slot at stake represents a life-changing opportunity for a young Filipino player to test his or her game against the world’s best. He noted that JGFP has grown in membership and reach in recent years, allowing more juniors from outside Metro Manila to realistically chase international berths.

NGAP officials said tapping JGFP to run the qualifiers is part of a broader effort to align grassroots programs with elite international opportunities, ensuring that the best juniors — from various age divisions and regions — get a clear route to world-level competition.
