Tiny tank, big tech: Jimny gets safety upgrade

DT

Suzuki Philippines has upgraded the 2026 Jimny 3-Door with advanced driver-assist features under its Suzuki Safety Support system, adding modern safety technology to the brand’s iconic compact 4x4.

Long known for its boxy styling, compact proportions, and serious off-road capability, the Jimny now integrates preventive safety systems aimed at improving daily drivability and long-distance comfort.

At the core of the update is Dual Sensor Brake Support II (DSBS II), which uses a camera and laser sensor to detect vehicles and pedestrians ahead. When a potential collision is detected, the system issues visual and audio warnings and can automatically apply the brakes if necessary. Suzuki notes that DSBS II is limited by the capability of its monocular camera and millimeter-wave radar sensors and should not replace attentive driving.

Adaptive Cruise Control is now available across all new Jimny 3-Door variants. The system uses radar and camera inputs to maintain a preset speed while automatically adjusting acceleration and braking based on traffic conditions.

The updated Jimny also features Lane Departure Warning and Lane Departure Prevention. The warning system alerts drivers through audio and visual cues when the vehicle drifts out of its lane, while the prevention feature provides subtle steering assistance. A Weaving Alert function monitors driving patterns and issues a warning if irregular drifting is detected.

For nighttime driving, High Beam Assist automatically switches between high and low beams depending on surrounding traffic and lighting conditions. The feature activates at speeds of 30 kilometers per hour and above when the headlamp switch is set to auto.

Beyond safety upgrades, Suzuki introduced interior enhancements. GLX variants now come with a nine-inch infotainment touchscreen and an updated colored information display in the gauge cluster. Both GL and GLX variants now include front side airbags and curtain airbags, strengthening occupant protection.

Front parking sensors are now standard across the range, while the GL variant gains a reverse camera to improve visibility when backing up.

The Jimny retains its 1.5-liter gasoline engine producing 102 PS and 130 Nm of torque, paired with either a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic transmission. It continues to feature the 4x4 ALLGRIP PRO drivetrain, allowing drivers to switch between 2WD, 4WD High, and 4WD Low modes for various road and terrain conditions.

Suzuki Philippines priced the 2026 Jimny 3-Door with Suzuki Safety Support as follows:

GL MT SS – P1,293,000
GLX AT SS – P1,355,000
GLX AT Two-Tone SS – P1,365,000

The company said the update positions the Jimny as a more well-rounded option for buyers seeking both rugged capability and modern safety technology.
