The Philippine National Police (PNP) has deployed more than 7,000 officers nationwide to secure Chinese New Year festivities, with a focus on high-density hubs in Metro Manila, officials said Monday.
A total of 7,179 personnel were strategically positioned beginning 16 February to cover business districts, malls, major roads, and traditional celebration areas.
Special attention is being given to Chinese communities in Manila, Caloocan, and Quezon City, where large crowds are expected through Tuesday.
PNP Chief Police General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said the deployment is designed to provide “reassurance” rather than disruption.
“Our goal is simple — for everyone to celebrate peacefully and safely,” Nartatez said. “We will be highly visible and fully ready.”
The security framework includes a mix of checkpoints, mobile and foot patrols, and covert security teams.
Specialized units, including bomb detection teams and emergency medical responders, are also on standby.
The PNP said the operation aligns with its “Enhanced Managing Police Operations” agenda, which prioritizes the efficient and intelligent deployment of resources in high-risk areas.
As celebrations begin, police officials reminded the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest officer or station.
“We will not let crime or disorder ruin the celebration,” said Nartatez, stressing a proactive, “people-centered” approach to public safety.
