The Philippine Army (PA) began its month-long celebration of its 129th founding anniversary on Monday. The theme, “Ang Inyong Matatag na Hukong Katihan,” represents the Army’s resilience, readiness, and role in national defense.

In his keynote remarks, Army Chief Lt. Gen. Antonio G. Nafarrete emphasized that operational effectiveness depends on the integration of personnel, equipment, training, logistics, leadership, and morale, rather than any single capability.

Nafarrete noted that the Army has shifted in recent years from a primarily internal security force to one also preparing for external security operations. “From individual and small unit training, to large-scale combined arms exercises involving multiple nations, and from local area focus to regional security preparations, we aim to be ready for evolving challenges,” he said.

He underscored that personnel remain the military’s primary asset, citing his “Our People, Our Strength” guidance. Training programs, equipment procurement, modernization initiatives, and international partnerships are aimed at strengthening soldiers’ capabilities.

The anniversary program includes activities such as a Family Run and Family Night, leadership development for senior officers, noncommissioned officer (NCO) empowerment, ROTC and reserve force training, cybersecurity initiatives, and recognition of exemplary personnel and institutions.
