SAN FERNANDO CITY, La Union — La Union showcased its pride in its rich history as the provincial government highlighted the heritage and shared identity of the "Elyu" community through the Lagip ti Umili (Memory of the People) exhibit at SM City La Union on 15 February 2026.
Governor Mario Eduardo C. Ortega, along with other government officials and personalities, led the opening of the exhibit. According to Ortega, the exhibit will showcase the province’s unforgettable moments and celebrate milestones that shaped La Union’s history.
The exhibit is part of the month-long activities for the 176th founding anniversary of the province.
It offers a meticulously curated historical narrative, tracing La Union’s evolution from its foundation to its modern status as a hub of culture and tourism.
The showcase features memorabilia, photographs, artifacts, and historical narratives drawn from past La Union Founding Anniversary (LUFA) celebrations. These materials chronicle civic traditions, milestones, and ceremonial events that define the province.
Ortega emphasized that preserving and presenting these materials ensures that La Union’s foundation, growth, and heritage are conveyed and safeguarded for future generations.
The exhibit transforms the anniversary from a ceremonial observance into an immersive learning experience, inviting the public to reflect on the province’s journey and fostering appreciation for its culture and legacy.
The provincial government said the SM City La Union launch provides a central space for both residents and tourists to engage with La Union’s story. Open throughout the anniversary month, the Lagip ti Umili exhibit underscores the values of unity, resilience, and pride that define the La Union spirit.
