BCDA to erect training centers in Baguio, Clark

The Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA) strengthened its partnership with the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) for the development of new training centers in Baguio and Clark.

“Our projects would be a multi-sports facility in [Camp] John Hay, which we are going to build in [Camp] John Hay, inside,” BCDA Vice President for Investment Promotions and Marketing Kenneth Peralta said during the press briefing of the Philippine Hot Air Balloon Festival in New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac.

“And then another 20 hectares here (New Clark City Athletics Stadium) for a tennis center because of Alex Eala, so we want more Alex Ealas around,” he added.

No timeline has been revealed yet for the projects but Peralta shared that the construction will begin by the end of the year.

For Peralta, more than the construction of new training facilities, it is important that the Philippines produce world-class talents at a very young age.

“That's why our young athletes are increasing. Their bodies will be fit for international competition,”  Peralta expressed, highlighting the National Academy of Sports (NAS), also located at the New Clark City.

“That's the lacking thing. If you train late, which was happening before, you can only go to Asia but not internationally,” he furthered and explained that around 200 scholars are currently enrolled in the institution.

The Philippines just finished its first hosting of an international sporting event for this year after its first-WTA approved event, the WTA 125 which ran from 26 to 31 January 2026 at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila.
