San Fernando OPS clarifies traffic ticket mix-up

SAN FERNANDO CITY — The city’s Office of Public Safety (OPS) has clarified a recent mix-up after photos went viral showing traffic enforcers issuing tickets to vehicles parked along the San Fernando Bypass Road, including some belonging to the Land Transportation Office (LTO) Region I.

The OPS said the social media claims that the agency was “doing nothing” to regulate illegal parking were inaccurate. In reality, the Traffic Operations Unit regularly conducts road clearing, often in coordination with the local police, especially in busy or congestion-prone areas like the bypass road.

The confusion happened during a planned joint operation between OPS and LTO Region I that had been postponed last year. On 12 February, OPS deployed traffic enforcers to the designated meeting area to prepare for the operation. Due to a miscommunication, the officers began issuing citations to vehicles that were actually on standby for the joint operation, including LTO service vehicles.

Photos of the scene quickly circulated online, prompting OPS to explain that the ticketing of LTO vehicles was unintentional. Officials said steps have been taken to prevent similar incidents in the future, including clearer coordination and communication during operations.

LTO Regional Director Glorioso “Danny” Martinez welcomed the clarification, saying the mistake was honest and reaffirming the commitment to continued coordination with the city for fair and consistent traffic enforcement.

OPS emphasized that road clearing, checkpoints, and ticketing are ongoing efforts to maintain public safety, and the agency remains committed to fair and well-coordinated enforcement to protect citizens and keep roads orderly.
