Mollenido double murder primary suspect faces obstruction charge

The estranged husband of a slain police officer has been served a subpoena in connection with an obstruction of justice complaint, his legal counsel confirmed Thursday.

Police Senior Master Sgt. John Mollenido is the primary suspect in the deaths of his wife, Police Senior Master Sgt. Diane Marie Mollenido, and their eight-year-old son, John Ysmael.

The subpoena, linked to proceedings before the Office of the City Prosecutor of Malolos, follows a public announcement by Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla.

The Rimando Law Office, representing Mollenido, stated that the matter is now under formal proceedings and considered sub judice.

“In observance of the rule against public commentary on cases pending before competent authorities, and to preserve the integrity of the legal process, we shall refrain from discussing the merits, evidence, or substantive aspects of the case,” the law firm said in a statement.

The legal team added that Mollenido remains committed to cooperating with lawful processes while “safeguarding his constitutional rights.”

The case follows the discovery of Diane Mollenido’s body in Bulacan on 24 January, followed by the discovery of their son’s body in Tarlac on 29 January.

John Mollenido was arrested by the Quezon City Police District on 1 February.

He was initially labeled a person of interest after authorities questioned his decision to immediately cremate his wife’s remains before forensic procedures were finished.
