BDO card promos tap Valentine spending boom

BDO Unibank is leaning into Valentine’s Day consumer momentum with a month-long slate of card-linked promotions, offering discounts of up to 40 percent throughout February for credit and debit cardholders as Filipinos continue to celebrate—while spending more carefully.

Under its Valentine campaign, BDO is rolling out curated lifestyle deals across dining, shopping, and travel.

Cardholders can enjoy 40 percent off set menus at Ruby Jack’s Steakhouse and Bar, up to 30 percent off dining at Admiral Hotel, and 20 percent or up to P250 off foodpanda orders. Retail offers include 25 percent off plus free shipping on FlowerStore.ph, 25 percent off at Designer Blooms, and up to 20 percent off at brands such as Alberto, Geox, Piccadilly, and Kyo. Select purchases at SM Store are also eligible for buy-now-pay-later arrangements.

Travel-related promotions round out the package, with up to 7 percent off Trip.com bookings for hotels, flights, airport transfers, tours, and attractions, and 6 percent off Agoda hotel reservations, reflecting growing interest in experience-based Valentine celebrations. Minimum purchase requirements, eligible cards, and promo periods vary per partner.

The campaign comes as spending data points to strong Valentine activity paired with heightened price sensitivity. A recent study by Visa showed that card transaction volumes in February 2024 rose year on year, indicating sustained consumer participation during the love month.

At the same time, average spending per transaction declined slightly, suggesting shoppers are increasingly using discounts, promotions, and installment options to manage budgets amid inflation.

For BDO Unibank, the Valentine rollout reinforces the bank’s broader strategy of pairing lifestyle partnerships with flexible payment options. By offering everyday savings across food, retail, and travel—key Valentine spending categories—BDO positions its card platform as a practical tool for consumers looking to celebrate without overspending.

As Filipinos remain eager to mark Valentine’s Day but with a sharper focus on value, BDO’s February-long deals underscore how banks are shaping consumer behavior through discounts and card-based incentives.
