After years of teasing and mixtape warmups, North Carolina rapper J. Cole released his long-awaited seventh studio album, The Fall-Off, on Friday, 6 February.
The 24-track project, which includes two bonus tracks, marks a full-circle moment for the Dreamville founder, who first hinted at the album in 2018 with “1985 (Intro to ‘The Fall Off’).”
Fans waited through the releases of The Off-Season (2021), the D-Day mixtape (2022), the Grammy-nominated Might Delete Later (2024), and his audio series Inevitable. Last month, Cole further teased the album with the surprise Birthday Blizzard ’26 freestyles, offering a preview of the introspection and streetwise lyricism that define the new release.
The Fall-Off spans two discs. Disc 29 opens with “29 Intro” and “Two Six,” while Disc 39 begins with “39 Intro” and “Inevitable.” The album closes with the bonus tracks “Lonely at the Top” and “Ocean Way.”
The project revisits familiar themes of legacy, personal reflection, and the contradictions of fame, while highlighting Cole’s lyrical precision over soulful production and modern hip-hop beats.
Streaming platforms were quick to light up following the album’s release, with fans praising its balance of vulnerability and confidence. Widely regarded as one of the most influential voices in rap over the past decade, Cole delivers what many listeners see as the culmination of years of foreshadowing and storytelling with The Fall-Off.
