SUBIC TOWN, Zambales — Zambales 1st District Rep. Jefferson F. Khonghun, Department of Health Central Luzon Regional Director Dr. Corazon I. Flores, and Subic Mayor Jon Khonghun conducted a site inspection of the ongoing construction of the Subic General Hospital in Barangay Asinan Proper on 6 February 2026.

The Subic General Hospital project is currently under construction and is scheduled for completion and turnover in November 2026. Once completed, it is expected to operate as a Department of Health-managed Level 2 or Level 3 facility.

The hospital is designed to accommodate up to 150 beds and will occupy a 15,000-square-meter site. It is intended to handle serious and complex medical cases.

Khonghun has filed House Bill No. 1227 seeking to formally establish the Subic General Hospital. The bill aims at “establishing in the Municipality of Subic, Province of Zambales, a general hospital to be known as the Subic General Hospital and appropriating funds therefor.”

Under House Bill No. 1227, the hospital will be established in Subic as a Level 3 facility under the direct control and supervision of the Department of Health.

The proposed measure also authorizes the DOH to further develop the hospital, including increases in bed capacity, health care facilities, service capabilities, and human resource complement.

Funding for the implementation of the measure will be charged against appropriations authorized under the first year of the General Appropriations Act, while the budget for the hospital’s operation and maintenance will be included in the annual GAA.

Khonghun noted that Subic has a population of about 120,000, while nearby Olongapo City has more than 260,000 residents. He said the Subic General Hospital will serve both areas by providing “equitable, accessible, and quality healthcare services by addressing longstanding gaps in the Zambales’ health system.”

“The impact of this measure extends beyond Subic and Olongapo. It promises to strengthen the broader health network of Zambales by enhancing referral systems, distributing healthcare load more equitably, and improving access to tertiary services for underserved municipalities such as San Antonio, Castillejos and San Marcelino,” he added.

“The facility is poised to contribute to socio-economic growth by generating employment for healthcare professionals and ancillary personnel, while stimulating local economic activity tied to health-related services and industries,” Khonghun said.
