QUEZON CITY — An armed resident of Barangay Loyola Heights was arrested Thursday night after allegedly firing a gun and attempting to intimidate a neighbor who had earlier accused him of internet hacking.
Police Brig. Gen. Randy Glenn Silvio, director of the Quezon City Police District, confirmed the arrest of the suspect, identified only as alias “Alexander,” 64, in a police report released Friday afternoon.
Police said the suspect fired shots using a .45-caliber pistol outside his home in Loyola Heights before igniting a butane torch near the victim’s Ford EcoSport at about 8:15 p.m.
After the incident, the suspect fled in a red Honda Civic, prompting residents to alert Anonas Police Station 9 through the Quezon City 122 helpline, authorities said.
Personnel from Police Station 9, the QCPD SWAT unit, and Talipapa Police Station 3 launched a hot pursuit operation. The suspect was later tracked down and arrested at about 11:40 p.m. in front of Baesa Town Center in Quezon City.
“I commend the swift response of our personnel, which led to the arrest of the suspect just three hours after the incident,” Silvio said. “This shows our commitment to maintaining peace and order and our readiness to respond to acts of violence.”
Recovered from the suspect were his red Honda Civic, a firearm, five magazines containing 39 rounds of live ammunition, P33,000 in cash, a pocket knife, and other personal belongings.
The suspect is set to face charges for violations of Republic Act 11926, or the law penalizing willful and indiscriminate discharge of firearms, the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, and malicious mischief. He is currently detained at Anonas Police Station.
Silvio also urged residents to promptly report illegal activities to authorities.
“We also encourage the public to continue reporting illegal activities to authorities or dial E911 or QC Helpline 122,” he said.
