DPWH to start C5 road repairs before rainy season

The Department of Public Works and Highways said road repairs along C5 will begin before the start of the rainy season this year, following a directive from President Ferdinand Marcos Jr..

Vince Dizon said the President had ordered the early start of repairs along the major thoroughfare to help ease traffic congestion.

The planned works along C5 are intended to improve traffic flow, particularly for trucks that regularly pass through the area.

“We know that C5 is worse than EDSA. Our trucks pass through there, so many of the roads are really damaged. That's also a huge factor in causing traffic because it's so potholed and it is slowing down vehicles,” Dizon said.

Aside from C5, Dizon said rehabilitation works are also ongoing along EDSA, which he expects to take up to eight months to complete.

According to Dizon, repairs covering the entire stretch of EDSA—from Roxas Boulevard to Monumento—are expected to be finished within that period.

“But these 8 months do not include the rainy season, because, as you know, we cannot work when there is rain. That's why we divided it into phases,” he said.

Dizon said Phase 1 of the rehabilitation will cover the stretch from Roxas Boulevard to Orense in Makati.

“The beauty of this is we are a little bit advanced. So hopefully before the rainy season, we will be able to work beyond Orense, maybe all the way to Boni Avenue and Shaw Boulevard,” he added.

The DPWH secretary has recently been inspecting various public works projects nationwide, particularly flood control projects, as part of the government’s infrastructure push.
