People living in an unsanitary home can run afoul of the law.
It was not surprising that police arrested a couple in Florida, on 14 January, a day after firefighters visited their home for a welfare check and found the house had a horrible smell and was filled with “piles of debris, garbage,” and “cockroach droppings,” US Weekly reports.
During the inspection on 13 January, authorities found in one bedroom an 81-year-old man who reeks of urine and roaches coming out from his filthy clothes and mattress. There was a one-year-old baby boy sleeping in a playpen in the living room, with roaches and bugs also crawling on him. Molds were growing throughout the refrigerator that contained expired food.
The next day, police went to the house of Tashaye Driaunah Brown, 31, and Nikolas Anthony Cummings. Brown tried to get rid of cockroaches infesting the house by spraying a Raid insect repellent around and under the crib of the baby, according to US Weekly.
Brown and Cummings were arrested and charged with “neglect of an elderly or disabled adult and “cruelty toward a child.
Meanwhile, a house renter in Waco, Texas, USA was reportedly evicted by the landlord, and a junk removal company was hired to clean up the house of garbage in October.
A truck of Alamo Junk Removal and Demolition (AJRD) driven by Guillermo Moreno hauled off the one-ton garbage from the property at 915 Turner Street, KWTX reports.
On 23 October, the McLennan County Sheriff’s Office received a report of illegal dumping in the 200 block of Wilson Road. Police found a ton of trash dumped at the site, including hauling paperworks linked to the AJRD, according to KWTX.
On 18 November, police interviewed Moreno, who denied dumping garbage in Wilson Road. He claimed that he parked the truck filled with garbage in front of his house after the cleanup, but woke up the next morning with the trailer empty, KWTX reports.
Investigators believe that Moreno was lying so police arrested him in December. He remains jailed at the McLennan County Jail for illegal dumping.
