A 30-year-old man was arrested after bags of suspected shabu allegedly fell from his license case during a routine police checkpoint along the national highway.

The suspect, identified as Mike Lorence Rosal of Barangay 31, Sideg, was flagged down near Barangay 9, San Pedro, at approximately 11:02 p.m., according to the Paoay Municipal Police Station.

Police said that as Rosal was producing his driver’s license and motorcycle registration for officers, three heat-sealed plastic sachets containing a white crystalline substance accidentally fell from his leather license case onto the pavement.

Patrolman Jan Benedict Ramos witnessed the items fall and immediately alerted the officer-in-charge, Capt. Jackson B. Sugayen.

A subsequent search of the suspect’s jacket and his motorcycle’s storage compartment allegedly yielded five additional sachets of suspected shabu and various drug paraphernalia, including a digital weighing scale, glass tooters and lighters.

Police also seized a black Raider 150 motorcycle and P7,085 in cash.

The total weight of the confiscated drugs was approximately 4 grams, with an estimated street value of P27,200, authorities said.

Rosal faces charges of possession of dangerous drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia under the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002. He remains in police custody pending further legal proceedings.
