LTO impounds motorcycle, revokes license over viral ‘superman stunt’

The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has impounded one of the motorcycles involved in a viral “superman stunt” along Commonwealth Avenue and revoked the driver’s license of one of the riders linked to the incident.

The LTO said that while two motorcycle riders were seen performing the dangerous stunt in the circulating video, only one of the motorcycles involved was registered. The agency coordinated with the Quezon City Police District Traffic Enforcement Unit to identify the motorcycle’s plate number through forensic examination.

Based on the investigation, the motorcycle was borrowed from a friend, but it was the friend’s son who used the vehicle to perform the stunt on the road.

The LTO noted that the video also showed the riders without proper helmets, wearing flip-flops, and using modified exhaust pipes that produced continuous backfires.

On Friday, the respondents were summoned by the LTO, which found that four individuals were involved in the incident. Two of them were minors. Parents or guardians who accompanied the minors said they were unaware of the incident until it went viral on social media.

The agency also discovered that only one of the four respondents had a valid driver’s license and was of legal driving age. The LTO further learned that one of the motorcycles involved in the incident had already been chopped and sold by the father of one of the respondents.

The LTO reminded motorists that performing stunts on public roads violates traffic regulations and poses serious danger to the public. The agency also urged parents and guardians to closely monitor their children and ensure they understand and follow traffic laws.
