Healthy beginnings, healthy eats

Dolly Dy-Zulueta

New hopes, new beginnings in the New Year. This is the best time to reset one’s goals in life and begin anew. This is also the best time to resolve one’s food issues and decide to make healthy changes in your diet.

As the year 2026 settled in, World of Flavors looked around for some light and healthy food to try and we easily found two.

Delicious Veggie Lasagna

LASAGNA by Tito Oye’s Spinach and Artichoke Cream Lasagna.

From the kitchen of Oye Isidro, one of metro’s most creative chefs comes a whole line of delicious lasagnas under his Lasagna by Tito Oye brand. One is his Classic Lasagna, which has layers of generous meat sauce between perfectly cooked lasagna sheets, but what really impresses health buffs and healthy eaters is his Spinach & Artichoke Cream Lasagna. It is layers upon layers of freshly cooked spinach in cream with artichoke chunks. Both lasagnas are available in three sizes —Solo Size (8x6x2 inches in size, good for 1 to 2 persons), Signature Pan (7x10x2 inches in size, good for 4 to 6 persons) and Family Size (12x8x2 inches in size, good for 8 to 10 persons).

Lasagna by Tito Oye ((@lasagnabytitooye on Instagram) also makes seasonal flavors available, such as Salmon White Truffle Lasagna, although in signature pan size only.

All these lasagnas are special because they are slow-cooked in small batches, no mass production and not compromising quality for quantity.

Homemade yogurt

From the owners of Tendon Central come Yogut Yogurt, a yogurt that bridges the gap between tart yogurt and ultra sweet ones.

YOGUT Yogurt comes in two variants — Original and No Sugar Added.

Knowing that yogurt is good for the gut, Carter Yu had always been a fan of yogurt, and he wanted his own children to grow up eating yogurt for good health. But he was constantly frustrated in his search for the yogurt that he wanted — creamy, balanced and genuinely healthy for his family.

“I’ve always been on the hunt for good yogurt, but I struggled to find one that hit the right balance. Commercial brands were either too sweet, too sour, or full of thickeners and preservatives. I even tried one that tasted salty,” said Carter.

He added: “I want my kids to reap the health benefits of eating yogurt regularly, but they rejected the tart options available in the market and I refused to feed them the sugary versions.”

He thus realized that if he wanted a clean, healthy yogurt that actually tasted good, he had to make it himself. So he spent precious time experimenting in his kitchen.

He started small, fermenting in his oven just for the consumption of his family and relatives. He spent months tweaking temperatures and cultures until he got that creamy texture without needing thickeners. It took him almost a year of experimentation to get the perfect formula he wanted.

“The ‘Eureka!’ moment came when my three-year-old son asked for seconds. That’s when I knew it was ready,” Carter shared.

After selling the original formula Yogut Yogurt for some time, customers began making requests for a No Sugar Added variant as well, so Carter developed one that keeps the brand’s signature taste but fits the specific needs of some of his clients.

Now there are two variants available — Original and No Sugar Added — and orders for a generous 680-gram tub priced at P380 can be made via Instagram (@yogutph).

Besides being eaten as is, Yogut Yogurt may be enjoyed with a topping of seasonal fruits or made into a mango yogurt smoothie. It can also be used in creamy salad dressings, as marinade to tenderize meat or for cooking.
