Finding his own sound: Christof Roxas steps into the spotlight

Jefferson Fernando

Although having a well-known last name can lead to opportunities, Christof Roxas's destination has never been determined by it. While he grew up surrounded by acting royalty through his parents, Gladys Reyes and Christopher Roxas, Christof is deliberately charting a different course — one led by music, emotion and authenticity.

For Christof, music has always been the center of gravity. Long before the idea of acting entered the conversation, melodies and lyrics felt like home. Influenced by classic greats such as Billy Joel and Paul McCartney, he immersed himself in songwriting, even when it didn’t come easily.

“It wasn’t first nature to me, this songwriting, but over time I’m very grateful because it also helped me unleash all of my emotions,” he shared.

That emotional release eventually led him to rock — an artistic space where he felt most himself. Unlike more rigid genres, rock gave him freedom, instinct, and a sense of truth he couldn’t ignore.

“When I sing rock, it almost comes second nature to me, it’s very fun… hindi ka niya kino-confine into a box.”

Beyond the stage and the studio, Christof is also grounding himself in practical realities. He is currently taking up Hotel and Restaurant Management, a decision driven by his interest in entrepreneurship and the long-term goal of helping manage their family restaurant. For him, education provides balance and perspective.

He describes this stage of his life as humbling, a vital base that helps him stay grounded while pursuing his artistic goals.

At home, the pressure to follow in his parents’ footsteps was never there. Instead, Christof credits them for allowing him the freedom to discover who he is — without expectations, only guidance.

“They always wanted me to venture into my own little things. Pinapaalala lang nila sa’kin is be humble, remain grateful of what you have, paa sa lupa mata sa langit. They’re very supportive naman.”

While acting remains a possibility in the future, Christof is clear about where his heart lies right now.

“I admire the profession of acting, I admire the art… But, this is my passion and no one can touch me when it comes to my music.”

Looking ahead, he dreams of collaborating with some of the biggest names in OPM—bands and artists who shaped generations and defined eras, including Eraserheads, Parokya ni Edgar, Rivermaya, Itchyworms, Ben&Ben, Ely Buendia and Ogie Alcasid.

For Christof Roxas, this chapter isn’t about legacy — it’s about identity. And with every lyric he writes and every note he sings, he’s proving that the loudest statement he can make is simply being himself.
