Reigning International Boxing Federation (IBF) minimumweight champion Pedro Taduran received a special guest recently in his Las Vegas training camp.
As he awaits word about his next fight, Taduran was visited by renowned American boxing man Sean Gibbons, who checked on the Filipino southpaw in Sin City.
Taduran is hoping to secure a megabuck matchup with Puerto Rican Oscar Collazo, the World Boxing Association and World Boxing Organization titlist.
In case Collazo decides to settle for World Boxing Council ruler Melvin Jerusalem, Taduran will have no choice but to look elsewhere so his training doesn’t go down the drain.
Jerusalem appears to have the inside track on the Collazo lottery based on online exchanges between the two fighters.
There is a possibility that Taduran will make his American debut in April, according to Cucuy Elorde, who manages the Bicol-born banger alongside brother Marty.
Taduran left Manila for the US on New Year’s Day nursing hopes of being selected by Collazo for a fight being eyed for Puerto Rico in March or April.
Gibbons represents Taduran via his Viva Promotions and an option is for him to see action in one of the televised cards planned by Manny Pacquiao Promotions which he runs.
Last time Taduran saw action was last October in Manila where he defeated compatriot Christian Balunan.
Before that, Taduran fought on hostile territory and mauled Ginjiro Shigeoka in Osaka to a bloody mess that saw the Japanese being brought out of the ring unconscious.
Shigeoka survived the brain operation but will never fight again.
