Ayala-backed Globe Telecom Inc. has expanded its partnership with Nokia to allow users and businesses to access more secure and personalized digital services, as banks and other industries begin using network-powered tools such as fraud prevention systems.
The company said on Thursday it is accelerating the rollout of network application programming interfaces (APIs) across its partner and developer ecosystem.
APIs allow companies to access network functions and data, opening up new ways to build digital services.
Early use cases are already emerging in industries such as banking, health care, automotive, entertainment, and defense, with more expected as awareness of the technology grows.
Under the agreement, Globe will gain access to Nokia’s full portfolio of APIs through its Network Exposure Platform (NEP), a cloud-based system that helps deliver API services and connect different network environments.
“With cyberattacks on digital services accelerating, it is crucial that we make available the latest network-powered technologies to our enterprise customers and help them safeguard against fraud. We are now at the stage of testing how Nokia’s NEP can support our customers in the banking and enterprise sectors with security verification tools to prevent fraudulent transactions,” said KD Dizon, VP & Head of Globe Business.
“Working together to advance network APIs, we can foster economic growth, support local innovation, and enhance connectivity for a more digitally inclusive society,” she added.
In February 2025, Globe said it would test NEP to develop security-focused applications to fight mobile banking fraud.
Several banks in the Philippines now plan to roll out Globe’s Number Verification API, and Globe and Nokia are building on this momentum to create similar opportunities across industries.
“Nokia’s open API solutions will empower Globe to rapidly develop and deploy new services, fostering innovation and creating new revenue streams by securely exposing network capabilities to developers and partners,” said Shkumbin Hamiti, Nokia Head of Network Monetization Platform.
“End users will experience a richer ecosystem of digital services, personalized applications, and improved connectivity.”
Nokia NEP is built on global industry standards and integrates with Nokia’s Network as Code platform, providing a cloud-based way to connect service provider networks with developers, align operators worldwide, and create new revenue opportunities.
