Phl eyes 12 squads for JGFP World Team Championship

DT

The Philippines will field four teams in each of the three divisions of the JGFP World Team Championship, scheduled to take place from 16 to 19 April in Davao City.

Qualifying tournaments will be conducted in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao to determine the composition of the national squads. At the same time, a fourth team in each division will be composed of players endorsed by tournament sponsors.

Indonesia has confirmed the participation of 20 players in the World Amateur Golf Ranking event, which is organized by the Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines (JGFP) and sanctioned by the National Golf Association of the Philippines (NGAP). Teams from Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam and other countries are also expected to compete.

Fil-American sensation Teagan Tudla has officially confirmed her participation.

The 10-year-old trains at Premier Golf Academy in San Marcos, California where she works with elite coaches on swing mechanics, mental game, and fitness as part of a long-term program designed to prepare her for top-level amateur and collegiate golf.

Tudla has already made waves with championship victories in the 7–8 division of the IMG Junior World Championships and the 9–10 bracket of the FCG Junior World Championships.

Also expected are Thailand national players Chonpansa and Warida Tawinsang, regular Philippine visitors.

The team competition will be played using a stroke play format across three divisions. Division 1 and Division 2 teams will compete over 54 holes, while Division 3 teams will play 36 holes. Each team will field four players per round, with the three lowest scores counting toward the daily team total. Final standings will be determined by cumulative scores, with the lowest total declared champion in each division. A mandatory double-par pick-up rule will apply in Division 2 and Division 3.

Teams will be classified into two categories: the C1 Country Group, composed of players representing a single country, and the C2 Association International Group, made up of players representing more than one country.

Teams must consist of four players from the same age-group classification and may be all boys, all girls or mixed. Any disqualification incurred by a team member will apply only to the round in which it occurs unless otherwise ruled by the tournament committee.

All participants will also compete in the individual competition. Awards will be presented to top finishers in the boys’ and girls’ divisions across the designated age groups based on submitted scores.

Pairings will be released one day before the tournament. Players who arrive late will be allowed to continue play but will not receive scores for holes already missed and must join their assigned group on the hole being played at the time of arrival.

Championship tee yardages will vary by age and gender, ranging from approximately 4,000 to 7,000 yards.

Team awards will be presented to champions and runners-up in each group and division under both the Country Championship and Association International Group categories.

Individual awards will recognize the top five boys and top five girls in each classification.

Team ties will be decided by sudden-death playoffs when possible, using the lowest four scores relative to par on each hole.

If a playoff cannot be held because of darkness or scheduling limitations, countback procedures will be used. Individual ties will also be resolved through playoffs or countback methods determined by the tournament committee.

Only accredited caddies from Apo Golf and Country Club will be permitted during competition, with limited exceptions for younger divisions. Pace-of-play rules will be enforced, including a 40-second time limit per shot.

Spectators will be allowed but are generally required to walk the course and comply with the JGFP Code of Conduct. The tournament committee will oversee competition and resolve disputes, with all decisions final once official results are posted.
