The Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) highlighted its dual role in public service and charity this January, extending medical assistance to local government units, earning recognition for its leadership in urban poor advocacy, and facilitating the release of a multi-million-peso lotto jackpot.
On 16 January 2026, two local government units benefited from PCSO’s medical assistance program, with the Municipality of Jaen in Nueva Ecija and Barangay Lamot 2 of Calauan, Laguna receiving medicines during a turnover ceremony at the Conservatory Building in Mandaluyong City.
The turnover was led by PCSO Assistant General Manager Lauro Patiag of the Charity Sector, representing PCSO General Manager Melquiades A. Robles. Jaen Mayor Silvester Austria received nearly ₱60,000 worth of medicines intended for the municipality’s upcoming medical missions and health activities, while Barangay Lamot 2 was granted ₱30,000 worth of medicines. The latter was received by Aileen Grace Papin of the Office of PCSO Director Imelda Papin on behalf of Barangay Chairperson Angelica Jones Alarva.
PCSO said the medicines were immediately prepared for transport to ensure timely distribution to beneficiaries, particularly residents with limited access to healthcare services. The initiative forms part of the agency’s continuing partnership with local governments to promote accessible and responsive healthcare nationwide.
Days later, on 19 January 2026, Robles was recognized as a “Champion of the Urban Poor” by the Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor during a courtesy visit at the PCSO Main Office in Mandaluyong City. The recognition cited his leadership and commitment to advancing inclusive social services and expanding access to medical and social assistance for marginalized communities.
The recognition was originally conferred during the National Capital Region celebration of Urban Poor Solidarity Week 2025, held under the theme “Sama sama sa Pag-ALPAS sa Bagong Pilipinas.” PCSO said the award underscores the agency’s role in supporting the government’s social protection agenda and building a more inclusive Bagong Pilipinas.
Meanwhile, PCSO also announced that a lucky bettor of the SuperLotto 6/49 game has officially claimed the P15.84-million jackpot from the 15 January 2026 draw. The winning combination was 14-24-10-05-15-11.
The winner, an employed woman, personally claimed her prize at the PCSO Main Office along Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong City, accompanied by her aunt. The prize-claiming ceremony was led by Robles.
The winner said she had played the lotto only four times and chose her numbers based on the birthdates of family members. She said she plans to invest part of the winnings in a business while saving the rest to ensure financial security.
PCSO reiterated its reminder for the public to play responsibly, noting that lotto games provide equal chances of winning. It also reminded winners that prizes exceeding P10,000 are subject to a 20 percent tax under the TRAIN Law and that jackpot prizes must be claimed within one year, otherwise forfeited to the PCSO Charity Fund in accordance with Republic Act No. 1169.
SuperLotto 6/49 draws are held every Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday at 9 p.m., and are broadcast live on IBC-13, D8TV and the PCSO Games Online Hub Facebook page.
