We are effectively talking about granting non-deterministic probabilistic models the authority to execute API calls that move money, sign contracts, or alter production environments, which immediately creates a nightmare scenario regarding liability and the terms of service that govern these interactions.
When an autonomous agent negotiates a supply chain deal that violates a sanction or hallucinates a discount that bankrupts a quarter, the question of who is responsible becomes a legal black hole that no current end-user license agreement is equipped to handle.
Furthermore, the interoperability required for these agents to “collaborate” assumes a world where Microsoft, Google, Salesforce and OpenAI are willing to share a standardized schema for intent and execution, which is historically laughable given that these companies are currently locked in a death match to own the underlying platform of work itself.
We are not just looking at a technology upgrade; we are looking at a fundamental restructuring of corporate liability where the “human in the loop” is merely a fall guy for a subscription-based digital workforce that creates as many messes as it cleans up.
The consumer and employee experience of this shift is going to be defined less by the magic of automation and more by the friction of platform lock-in and the inevitable degradation of accountability.
