Netflix is set to become the worldwide

Pay-1 streaming destination for Sony Pictures’ feature films under a new multi-year agreement that significantly expands their long-running partnership.

Under the deal, Sony’s movies will arrive exclusively on Netflix after completing their theatrical runs and home entertainment windows. While Pay-1 agreements are typically negotiated territory by territory, this arrangement ultimately delivers global coverage.

The rollout will begin later this year as existing regional rights expire, with Netflix expected to host Sony’s Pay-1 slate worldwide by early 2029. In addition to new theatrical releases, Netflix will also gain access to a curated selection of Sony’s film and television library titles.

Netflix already holds Pay-1 rights to Sony films in several markets, including the United States, Germany and parts of Southeast Asia. Recent crowd-pleasers under the current arrangement include Uncharted, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, Anyone But You, It Ends With Us and Venom: The Last Dance.

Netflix executives say the expanded deal strengthens the platform’s value proposition for subscribers, bringing globally recognized franchises and popular originals to audiences far beyond the US market.

Sony, meanwhile, positions the agreement as a strategic win that amplifies the reach of its theatrical releases while preserving the studio’s independence. The company emphasized that the partnership supports filmmakers, audiences and distribution partners alike by pairing Sony’s films with Netflix’s global scale.

Among the first wave of titles expected to stream under the new agreement are The Nightingale, the long-awaited adaptation of Kristin Hannah’s novel starring Dakota and Elle Fanning; Sony Pictures Animation’s Buds; Nintendo’s live-action The Legend of Zelda; Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, which completes the acclaimed animated trilogy; and Sam Mendes’ ambitious four-film project centered on The Beatles.

With this deal, Netflix further solidifies its role as a premier post-theatrical home for major studio releases, while Sony secures a global streaming partner capable of delivering its films to hundreds of millions of viewers worldwide.
