Thousands of devotees and at least 420 boats joined the fluvial procession in honor of the Feast of Sr. Sto. Niño de Cebu along the Mactan Channel on Saturday, 17 January.

“Our faith and devotion to the Holy Child remain strong despite the trials we faced recently,” said Fr. Andres Rivera Jr., rector of the Basilica Minore del Sto. Niño de Cebu, in his homily during the reenactment of the first Mass held after the fluvial procession.

The threat of rain did not stop devotees from Cebu City, Mandaue City and Lapu-Lapu City from gathering along the coast to witness the procession ahead of Sunday’s feast.

More than 420 vessels joined the water-borne parade, led by Lite Ferries 10, which carried the image of Sto. Niño. Police said the number of participating boats, motor bancas, and sea vessels was higher than in 2025.

The images of St. Joseph the Worker and Our Lady of Guadalupe were also featured on the galleon that carried Sr. Sto. Niño de Cebu.

Despite a slight delay, authorities said the fluvial procession was generally smooth and peaceful.
