Dasmariñas NUP chapter may dissolve; cases against Barzaga to be filed

The dissolution of the Dasmariñas chapter of the National Unity Party (NUP) looms as party stalwarts want a shake-up of the party in connection with the actions of its member, Cavite 4th District Rep. Kiko Barzaga.

This was aired by House Deputy Speaker and Antipolo 1st District Representative Ronaldo Puno.

By Monday, Puno said he will propose dissolving the Dasmariñas chapter of NUP, and he expects all NUP members in Dasmariñas to be removed from the party.

The party may also opt to file cases against Barzaga next week after feeling as though they became victims of libel, said Puno.

The NUP stalwart said a meeting for the party is set on Monday with 40 individuals expected to arrive.

“On Monday the party will have a meeting. We will tackle all this because all of us were in the party which were pointed by Barzaga and we feel that we were charged with libel because it shows that we are also being bribed. So I think all of us are going to be filing. Those who are in the meeting are 40 members. So maybe next week, at least 40 suits will be filed against him,” said Puno.

The solon earlier talked about taking legal action against Barzaga due to his claims that members of the party received bribes from a businessman.

Aside from filing suit against Barzaga, the party is also eyeing getting Barzaga expelled from the House of Representatives.

Puno said it “demeans the House” to have someone like Barzaga as a member, considering his behavior.

He said they are also contemplating filing a new complaint and asked for Barzaga to be expelled, which he described as “an outright defiance of everything that is going on.”

Puno said Barzaga is acting in bad faith and inventing claims, which is not the behavior of a true lawmaker since he is “somewhat playing only.”

“So I think it demeans the House to have somebody like him there,” Puno said, adding it would be best for Barzaga to stop being a “distraction” from all the problems they face in Congress.

To recall, the House of Representatives on the first day of December 2025 imposed a 60-day suspension against the Cavite lawmaker for being “guilty of disorderly behavior.”
