#AdaPH strands nearly 4,000 passengers in 14 ports

Tropical Storm Ada has disrupted sea travel in several ports across the country, with thousands of passengers and cargoes stranded, according to the Philippine Coast Guard on Friday morning.

The Coast Guard reported that a total of 3,961 passengers and drivers from 14 ports nationwide were prevented from traveling by sea due to unsafe conditions.

Also stranded were 1,344 rolling cargoes and 15 vessels, while 10 other vessels were forced to seek shelter, the PCG said.

Most of the stranded passengers were recorded in the Bicol Region, with 1,816 individuals affected. The Coast Guard said 620 rolling cargoes and nine vessels were stranded in three ports—Mobo, Pilar, and Castilla.

Meanwhile, 1,340 passengers were stranded in Eastern Visayas, while another 805 were affected in Mindanao.

Based on the 8 a.m. advisory of the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration, Tropical Storm Ada was located 335 kilometers northeast of Guiuan, Eastern Samar. It was moving northward at 15 kilometers per hour, with sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour and gusts reaching up to 85 kilometers per hour.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 was raised over 15 areas, including eastern Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Catanduanes, Albay, Sorsogon, eastern Masbate including Burias and Ticao islands, Northern Samar, Samar, Eastern Samar, Biliran, northern and central Leyte, eastern Southern Leyte, Dinagat Islands, Surigao del Norte, and Surigao del Sur.

Class suspensions were also reported in several areas in Calabarzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao as the storm continues to affect weather conditions.
