'Nothing more, nothing less': Katya Santos on Viva Hotbabes reunion

At a time when early-2000s nostalgia is enjoying a powerful resurgence, former Viva Hotbabes member and actress Katya Santos chose clarity, gratitude, and grace.

In an open letter shared on Facebook, Santos addressed renewed calls for a Viva Hotbabes concert reunion—sparked largely by the successful comeback shows of fellow-era icons SexBomb Girls. Rather than fueling expectations, Santos offered fans an honest reflection on where the group stands today, while reaffirming the place Viva Hotbabes already holds in Philippine pop culture.

“A heartfelt gratitude to all our beloved fans who are consistently hoping for a VIVA HOTBABES REUNION,” Santos wrote. “Unfortunately, we all have our own different paths to prioritize right now. We love the idea but it may not happen anytime soon.”

Her message, however, went far beyond logistics. Santos took time to articulate what Viva Hotbabes represented during their peak—an era defined not by competition, but by confidence and individuality.

“We’d like to gently set the record straight,” she continued. “Viva Hotbabes holds a place in Philippine pop culture that we’re deeply grateful for. Not because of hype or comparison, but because we were part of a time that celebrated confidence, individuality, and fearless self-expression. We weren’t just a group — we were a moment, a feeling, and a reflection of an era that many still remember fondly.”

Acknowledging long-standing comparisons with their contemporaries, Santos was deliberate and respectful in drawing clear lines between legacies.

“To those drawing comparisons with our friends, The SexBomb Girls: Let’s say this with respect and clarity; The SexBomb Girls are legendary in their own right,” she wrote. “Their recent concert success is a beautiful reminder of how much they are loved, and we sincerely congratulate them on that milestone.”

She underscored that coexistence—not rivalry—defined that generation of pop acts. “They are celebrated for what they do. We are appreciated for what we did. Different styles. Different strengths. Same era. That’s not rivalry—that’s coexistence, contribution, and shared history.”

Santos also addressed criticism head-on, reaffirming the group’s self-awareness and pride in their journey. “Yes, we are actresses and models. We never claimed to be professional dancers, and we were never meant to be,” she said. “Our strength was always in our presence, our personalities, and our work across film, music, and media.”

To critics, her response was firm but measured: “We respect that everyone has opinions. Ours is simple — we’re proud of the work we did and grateful that it still resonates with people today.”

And to fans who continue to hold Viva Hotbabes close to their hearts, Santos offered a quiet but powerful affirmation. “Thank you for remembering the joy, confidence, and energy we brought. Some stories don’t need competition—they simply live on in memory.”

She closed the letter with words that felt less like a defense and more like a declaration of peace with the past and confidence in the present.

“We are who we are. We’ve always been. And we move forward with gratitude, not the need to prove anything,” Santos wrote. “Viva Hotbabes — nothing more, nothing less.”

In an age where reunions often serve as validation, Katya Santos’ message stood out for choosing something rarer: contentment with legacy and gratitude without regret.
