The Philippine National Police (PNP) seized more than P105.5 million worth of smuggled cigarettes during a raid at a compound in Dinalupihan, Bataan, on Friday.
The operation was carried out by elements of the Bataan Provincial Police Office (PPO).
PNP Chief Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said authorities implemented a Letter of Authority at around 9:30 a.m. at a gray-gated compound in Barangay Santa Isabel.
Police said repeated call-outs and knocks at the compound gate went unanswered, prompting the team—assisted by barangay officials—to forcibly open the premises. Inside, authorities discovered 12 motor vehicles loaded with approximately 1,030 master cases of cigarettes.
The seized brands included MODERN, RGD, NISE BAISHA, HP, POWER, CARNIVAL, PLAYBOY, and PRESIDENT. Initial estimates placed the volume at about 10.3 million cigarette sticks, with a market value of P72.1 million and corresponding excise taxes amounting to P33.475 million, bringing the total estimated value to P105,575,000.
“This operation shows the firm commitment of the Philippine National Police to support the government’s campaign against smuggling and other economic crimes,” Nartatez said.
“We will continue to work closely with our partner agencies to protect government revenues and prevent the distribution of illicit goods,” he added.
The raid was conducted in coordination with the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Service (CIIS)–Limay, the Enforcement and Security Service (ESS)–Limay, and the Philippine Coast Guard Task Force Aduana. Perimeter security was provided by Charlie Company of the 69th Infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army’s 7th Infantry Division.
Nartatez said proper coordination was made with Barangay Santa Isabel officials prior to the operation.
He also stressed that sustained inter-agency cooperation is crucial in curbing illicit trade.
“Smuggling operations thrive when enforcement is weak. That is why sustained inter-agency cooperation is essential. We assure the public that the PNP will remain vigilant,” he said, adding that those involved will be held accountable under the law.
The Bataan operation follows a series of recent anti-smuggling efforts by the PNP.
On 6 January, authorities intercepted a vessel carrying 332 master cases of undocumented cigarettes worth about P21.25 million off Manalipa Island in Zamboanga, leading to the arrest of three individuals.
The PNP has also ordered an investigation to determine possible links between the seizure of P1.1 billion worth of cigarettes in Batangas City on December 31, 2025, and another P1.5 billion haul confiscated in Malabon City on 1 January.
