Court orders removal of barricades against mining

A regional trial court has ordered protesters to immediately remove barricades along Keon Barangay Road in Bitnong, which block access to the exploration area of mining firm Woggle Corp.

In a consolidated resolution issued on 6 January 2026, Regional Trial Court Branch 30 presiding judge Paul Attolba Jr. upheld a preliminary injunction in a civil case filed by Woggle Corp. against Florentino Daynos and other defendants.

The court authorized the Philippine National Police provincial director to assist court sheriffs in enforcing the injunction and to take action against anyone who defies the order. Motions from the defendants to dissolve the injunction were denied.

Judge Attolba emphasized the binding nature of judicial orders and warned that noncompliance could lead to contempt charges. The ruling was based on existing pleadings and records, without a trial on disputed facts, and took effect immediately upon promulgation.

The legal dispute stems from community concerns over the mining project’s impact on land and livelihoods. Protest actions escalated to barricades, raising questions about lawful protest and public access.

Woggle Corp. general manager Lorne Harvey said the company respects the court resolution and remains committed to operating responsibly and transparently while complying with the law.

While the ruling did not specify a monetary value for the case, any future fines or bonds would be denominated in pesos.
