The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday urged devotees to strictly observe safety regulations as preparations continue for the Traslacion 2026 on 9 January.
PNP Chief Lieutenant General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said police units are coordinating with local government offices, event marshals, and other authorities to secure the annual procession marking the transfer of the image of Jesus Nazareno from Intramuros to Quiapo Church.
“So far, we have not monitored any specific security threats, but we are closely monitoring the situation, including social media,” Nartatez said.
He added that PNP teams are coordinating with local units and information officers to immediately verify and act on any reports.
The security preparations are in line with government directives to ensure order during large religious gatherings.
The PNP reminded devotees to avoid bringing prohibited items such as firearms, fireworks, pyrotechnics, glass containers, hoodies, caps or hats, bags, gadgets, and jewelry during the procession.
Authorities also advised against allowing infants, children, senior citizens, and individuals who are sick, pregnant, or intoxicated to join the event due to safety concerns.
Participants were advised to wear comfortable clothing, bring water and light snacks, use transparent bags, and familiarize themselves with the procession route.
Devotees were also reminded to avoid pushing, maintain safe distances, and immediately seek assistance from volunteers or authorities if they feel unwell.
As part of security measures, the PNP will enforce a nationwide gun ban from 8 to 10 January.
The Manila City government will also impose a liquor ban within a 500-meter radius of Quiapo Church on 9 January. Fireworks and firecrackers will be prohibited from 8 to 9 January.
The Traslacion is one of the country’s largest religious events, drawing millions of devotees annually to Manila’s streets.
