At least 82 percent of Filipinos trust the United States to help the Philippines protect its national interests, according to a Pulse Asia survey released on Monday.
The poll, commissioned by the Stratbase Group and conducted from 12 to 15 December, showed the United States far ahead of other countries trusted by Filipinos to help assert Philippine rights and safeguard national interests.
Respondents were allowed to select up to five countries or organizations they trust and believe the administration of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. should work with in asserting Philippine rights and protecting national interests.
Survey results showed that the United States topped the list with 82 percent, followed by Japan at 64 percent, Canada at 58 percent, and Australia at 51 percent.
The Pulse Asia survey covered 1,200 respondents nationwide and had a ±2.8 percentage point margin of error. Only 15 respondents did not provide an answer.
Victor Andres Dindo Manhit, founder and chief executive officer of Stratbase Group, said the findings reflect a public that is fully aware of China’s aggression in the West Philippine Sea.
