The Bureau of Immigration and the Philippine National Police arrested a Nepalese national wanted by foreign authorities following a joint law enforcement operation in Malolos City on 31 December 2025.

According to the BI, the suspect was identified as 33-year-old Prakash Pathak, who is wanted for extortion and criminal conspiracy. He was arrested at Paseo de Congreso in Barangay Catmon, Malolos City.

The arrest stemmed from coordination with the Philippine Center on Transnational Crime, which informed the BI that a warrant of arrest against Pathak was issued by the Kathmandu District Court on 1 December 2025, for criminal breach of trust.

An Interpol Diffusion was also issued against Pathak on 12 December 2025 for extortion and criminal conspiracy.

BI investigations further revealed that Pathak was allegedly linked to serious security-related activities abroad. Official information received by the bureau indicated that he had encouraged escaped prisoners to resist surrender, offered financial support, and referenced access to weapons. He was also reportedly linked to a conspiracy to assassinate a high-ranking foreign government official.

BI records show that Pathak arrived in the Philippines on 18 August 2025, and was authorized to stay until 18 December 2025.

BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said the arrest reflects the President’s directive to prevent the Philippines from being used as a refuge by fugitives and individuals involved in transnational crimes.

“Under the President’s clear instructions, we will not allow foreign fugitives or extremists to exploit our immigration system. Those who enter the country and pose a threat to public safety or international security will be located, arrested, and dealt with in accordance with the law,” Viado said.

“This arrest underscores our commitment to support the President’s agenda of strengthening border security and international cooperation. The BI will continue to work closely with the PNP, PCTC, and foreign counterparts to ensure that the Philippines does not become a safe haven for criminals,” he added.

The suspect is currently under BI custody and will undergo deportation proceedings.
