Pedro Taduran, one of just two reigning Filipino world champions, has arrived in the United States ready for training camp.
While negotiations are still under way for his unification showdown with Puerto Rican two-belt titleholder and pound-for-pound puncher Oscar Collazo, his camp decided to push forward.
Taduran, holder of the International Boxing Federation minimumweight crown, is eyeing to annex Collazo’s World Boxing Association and World Boxing Organization 105-pound straps.
The target date for this matchup is sometime in March in Collazo’s backyard in Puerto Rico.
With the Filipino already in America, it would be a lot easier for Taduran to get primed up for battle.
The site of his camp will be Las Vegas, where Sean Gibbons, his American representative, resides and has a well-equipped gym.
Gibbons is in talks with Collazo’s promotional outfit, the Oscar De La Hoya-owned Golden Boy Promotions, to have Taduran as an opponent.
Although he hasn’t officially made an announcement, Collazo is looking to fight in the first quarter of the new year.
In fact, even before the Christmas holidays, Collazo, also a lefty like Taduran, has been showing up for training.
Collazo is seeking to unify all titles in 2026 in a bid to become Puerto Rico’s first undisputed champion as he attempts to ho up in weight towards the end of the year.
The World Boxing Council champion is Filipino Melvin Jerusalem, whom Collazo has beaten almost two years ago but has since improved a lot.
