The Cure guitarist and keyboard player Perry Bamonte has died at the age of 65, the legendary English rock band announced on its official website Saturday morning.
“It is with enormous sadness that we confirm the death of our great friend and bandmate Perry Bamonte, who passed away after a short illness at home over Christmas,” the band said in a statement.
“Our thoughts and condolences are with all his family. He will be very greatly missed,” it added.
The band described Bamonte—fondly known as “Teddy”—as quiet, intense, intuitive, constant, and hugely creative.
Before becoming a full-time member, Bamonte worked as part of The Cure’s road crew beginning in 1984. He officially joined the band in 1990, playing guitar, six-string bass, and keyboards.
According to the band, Bamonte performed in more than 400 shows during his first 14-year run with the group from 1990 to 2004. He later rejoined the band and played another 90 shows after returning in 2022.
Bamonte also contributed to several of The Cure’s albums, including Wish, Wild Mood Swings, Bloodflowers, Acoustic Hits, and The Cure.
