Filipinos continue to suffer from non-communicable diseases during the holiday season as cases of asthma, acute stroke, and acute coronary syndrome continue to rise.
According to a report from the Department of Health (DOH), a total of 127 cases of the three diseases were recorded from December 21 until 4:59 a.m. on 26 December 2025.
The data were gathered from 10 pilot sites monitoring complications related to non-communicable diseases.
Of the 30 cases of acute coronary syndrome, 14 involved patients aged 60 to 69. The same age group also accounted for 27 out of 81 cases of acute stroke.
Meanwhile, four out of 16 cases of bronchial asthma were recorded among children aged 0 to 9, with another four cases reported among individuals aged 60 to 69.
Two deaths were reported during the period, one due to an acute stroke and another due to an acute coronary syndrome.
The DOH also issued reminders to help prevent these illnesses.
To avoid acute coronary syndrome, the health agency advised the public to avoid overeating, excessive alcohol consumption, and stress. Individuals experiencing chest pain or difficulty breathing are urged to consult a health professional immediately.
To reduce the risk of acute stroke, the DOH encouraged maintaining normal blood pressure, engaging in regular physical activity, and seeking immediate medical attention if numbness or weakness occurs in any part of the body.
For bronchial asthma, the DOH advised avoiding triggers such as dust and smoke, maintaining a clean environment, and always carrying inhalers and prescribed medications.
