Aboard Gabriela Silang, service reaches shore

The trip began at sea and ended on shore, with the First Lady trading ceremony for service.

First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos joined the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Friday for a community outreach mission in Orion, Bataan, stepping aboard the BRP Gabriela Silang and heading toward one of the province’s coastal communities.

Marcos, who holds the rank of Auxiliary Vice Admiral in the Coast Guard Auxiliary, helped distribute family food packs and spent time speaking with residents during the activity, which included a medical mission organized by the PCG.

“A two-hour journey aboard the BRP Gabriela Silang brought us to Orion, Bataan where I joined the dedicated men and women of the Philippine Coast Guard for their community welfare and outreach program,” the First Lady wrote on social media.

The outreach unfolded at an unhurried pace: Food packs passed from hand to hand, medical consultations held under makeshift shelters, and brief conversations punctuated by smiles and the occasional request for a photo.

For many Orion residents, it was a rare visit from government officials arriving not by convoy, but by ship.

According to the PCG, nearly 300 members of the Aeta community benefited from the outreach, which aims to bring basic services to communities often beyond the reach of regular government programs.
