The Department of Agriculture (DA) is eyeing to bring its flagship rice program to 15 million households next year following the completion of its nationwide rollout.
In a statement on Thursday, the DA confirmed that the initiative is now present in all 82 provinces, after its final launch in Maguindanao del Norte. The expansion is intended to increase access to cheaper rice, particularly for low-income and remote communities.
“This is about uplifting every Filipino, boosting local production, and ensuring no one — regardless of culture or religion — is left behind in our nation’s progress,” Assistant Secretary Genevieve Guevarra said.
According to DA, the rollout in Barira, Buldon, Matanog, Sultan Kudarat, and Sultan Mastura extends P20 rice distribution to geographically challenged areas. It also reflects stronger coordination between the national government and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
“The fulfillment of the P20 rice project would not have been possible without the unified action and collaboration of various government agencies,” Guevarra said.
To date, the government has established 429 P20-rice sites nationwide. With full provincial coverage achieved, the department said its focus now shifts to building supply capacity and deepening market reach as it works toward the 15-million-household target.
