SAN PEDRO, Laguna — Antonio Lascuña and Robert Pactolerin capped a strong week on Wednesday as they swept their divisions in the Stronghold Insurance Senior Open, surviving the demanding Hallow Ridge layout with convincing victories.
Lascuña wrapped up the 50–59 (Senior) division with a steady even-par 72, while Pactolerin closed the 60–69 (Super Senior) bracket with a 76, the duo winning by a combined 15 strokes. In contrast, the Legends (70-and-above) title went down to sudden death, where Fabian del Rosario edged Dave Hernandez with a routine par on the first playoff hole.
The 54-year-old Lascuña — owner of a record five PGT Order of Merit crowns — finished at 4-under 212, five shots clear of Mars Pucay, who carded a second straight 71. Rico Depilo fired an eagle-aided 73 to finish another three strokes back.
“It’s been a while since I won,” Lascuña said, noting his last top finish was a third-place showing in the ICTSI Tour stop at Apo Golf. “This is special because it gives me confidence that I can still compete at a high level.”
Rey Pagunsan limped home with a 78 but held fourth, 13 shots behind, while Orlan Sumcad shot a 74 to complete the top five.
Pactolerin, 63, and the 1990 Philippine Open champion, savored his first win in 13 years.
“This is definitely special,” he said in Filipino. “I’ll cherish this because competing is really in my blood.”
Doming Umadhay placed second with a 79, 10 shots adrift, while Danilo delos Santos rallied with a 75 to jump to third at 237, overtaking Japan’s Tanaka Kosuke, who struggled early and signed for an 81. Former PH Open winner Mario Manubay rebounded with an 80 for fifth, just two shots behind Rey Janaya (77).
While Lascuña and Pactolerin cruised, Del Rosario — Valley Golf teaching pro — clinched his division by capitalizing on Hernandez’s missed green in the playoff, becoming the final champion to check in on another busy day at Hallow Ridge.
“This is for the love of the game,” said Stronghold Insurance president and general manager Romulo delos Reyes Jr. during the awarding rites, where all participants — including those who missed the cut — were treated to a hearty meal and giveaways.
“We will expand this tournament next year and hope to form a Philippine team to compete abroad,” he added, drawing applause from the field.
