The Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) confirmed on Saturday that former Bamban mayor Alice Leal Guo, Jaimielyn Santos Cruz, and Rachelle Joan Malonzo Carreon were transferred Friday night to the Correctional Institution for Women (CIW) from the Pasig City Jail Women’s Dormitory.
In a report submitted to BuCor Officer-in-Charge Assistant Secretary Al Perreras by CIW Chief Superintendent Marjorie Ann Sanidad, the trio—escorted by officers from the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology led by Jail Chief Inspector Jean Olive Unciano, warden of the BJMP Pasig City Jail Female Dormitory—arrived at the CIW Reception and Diagnostic Clinic (RDC) at around 10:17 p.m.
The inmates were transferred to the CIW by virtue of a mittimus order issued and signed by Judge Annielyn B. Mendes-Cabels of Regional Trial Court Branch 167.
Guo, also known as Guo Hua Ping (Prison No. C225P-531), Cruz (Prison No. C225P-530), and Carreon (Prison No. C225P-529) were sentenced to life imprisonment for qualified trafficking and were ordered to pay a fine of ₱2 million each.
Sanidad said Guo and the others will undergo a five-day quarantine period at the RDC, during which they will receive thorough medical examinations.
After the quarantine, they will be transferred to the RDC’s regular dormitory, where they will stay for 55 days to undergo mandatory orientation, diagnostics, and classification.
Upon completion of the 60-day RDC process, the inmates will be transferred to their assigned regular dormitory at the Maximum Security Camp, in view of their life sentences, Sanidad added.
Earlier, BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr. said the 55-day assessment period following the five-day quarantine is crucial for newly committed persons deprived of liberty, as it helps determine their psychological and physical needs for the creation of individualized treatment programs.
Catapang also noted that the RDC provides orientation programs and educational sessions designed to help new inmates adjust to the correctional environment and understand their rights and the facility’s rules.
