MPOWER enables entry of Aseana City to competitive market

DT

D.M. Wenceslao & Associates, Incorporated (DMWAI) has tapped MPower, the local retail electricity supplier (RES) of Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Company (Meralco), to enroll its properties in the cities of Makati and Parañaque under the Retail Aggregation Program (RAP).

DMWAI subsidiary Aseana Holdings Inc. (AHI) has signed an agreement with MPower for the transition of its commercial spaces and offices in Aseana City.

RAP allows smaller electricity end-users to aggregate multiple accounts within the same franchise area and purchase power in bulk from retail electricity suppliers.

This comes a year after DMWAI switched its properties to the Competitive Retail Electricity Market (CREM), where businesses with an electricity demand of at least 500 kilowatts have the option to select their electricity provider.

Relationship with Meralco

and MPower has grown

“Our relationship with Meralco and MPower has grown over the years of working closely together — from planning and building to full operations. Today’s milestone continues that strong partnership, and we are confident the Meralco & MPower team will remain by our side as we move into the next phase,” DMWAI president and CEO Delfin Angelo C. Wenceslao said.

DMWAI has been a partner of MPower since 2019 when the former first participated in the Retail Competition and Open Access (RCOA) program in the Philippines, which gives large load consumers to select their electricity supplier according to their unique needs.

New milestone

“This new milestone with Aseana reflects the deep trust and shared goals that have shaped our partnership since 2019. Each collaboration — whether CREM or the recently signed RAP accounts — underscores our commitment to providing reliable energy solutions. We’re grateful for Aseana’s continued confidence in MPower as we work together to support opportunities for growth,” Meralco first vice president and head of MPower Redel M. Domingo said.

MPower remains committed to delivering competitive energy solutions and high-quality service, further supporting the accessibility of customer choice programs like RAP. MPower, which serves contestable customers, including top corporations within Meralco’s franchise area, has established itself as the preferred Local Retail Electricity Supplier, with more than 30 percent share of the competitive retail electricity market within Meralco’s franchise area.

Currently, it is actively increasing its renewable energy capacity in its supply portfolio as part of its commitment to sustainability and as a response to the growing clamor of customers for renewable energy.
