Angeline Quinto reflects on pain, gratitude, and her mother’s support

Kapamilya singer and actress Angeline Quinto has never shied away from telling her truth—but her latest revelation stands as one of her most heartfelt yet. In a candid conversation with veteran columnist and manager Ogie Diaz, the powerhouse vocalist revisited the emotional and complicated story of her adoption, a chapter marked by heartbreak, survival, and the unwavering love of the woman she would grow up calling her mother.

“Yun lang ba yung halaga ko?” — The pain of a ₱10,000 adoption

During the interview, Angeline confirmed that her biological mother, Nanay Susan, received ₱10,000 in exchange for giving her up as a baby. The act, she admitted, still stings.

“Oo naman. Yun lang ba yung halaga ko?” she said when asked how it felt to hear the truth.

But instead of resentment, what followed was profound gratitude—because that painful transaction also led her to the arms of her adoptive mother, Mama Bob.

“Pero kasi pag naririnig ko yung ganyan nangyari sa buhay ko, parang pinagsasalamat ko nalang din kasi kung hindi dahil kay Mama Bob, baka hindi ako buhay ngayon.”

Angeline shared that Mama Bob played a crucial role even before her birth.

The mother who fought for her life

According to Angeline, her biological mother had initially considered abortion due to personal struggles and plans to work abroad.

“Nung time na buntis siya sa akin at dinadala niya ako, gusto niya mag Japan so hindi na tuloy dahil nga nabuo ako. So yun yung parang gusto niyang gawin parang magiging sagot para daw matuloy yung pag Jajapan. Eh nalaman ng Mama Bob, pinigilan niya.”

Long before she took her first breath, someone was already protecting her.

“Ako yung swerte dahil si Mama Bob yung naging nanay ko kasi hindi naman alam ng lahat na binalak ako ipaabort ng biological mother ko at si Mama Bob yung nagligtas sa akin,” she revealed.

For Angeline, being saved—literally—from not existing is the kind of love that shaped her entire life.

Reconnecting with her roots: 'Ayun na yun eh'

Angeline’s first meeting with her biological mother happened around 15 years ago. The moment, she said, was filled with emotion and long-overdue honesty.

“Marami daw siyang dinadala na problema nung time na yun kaya niya nagawa yun. Hindi sila okay ng tatay ko kaya ako ibinigay kay Mama Bob,” Angeline recounted.

During the reunion, the truth became undeniable.

“Umiyak siya habang sinasabi niya yun. Siyempre ako dahil masyadong emotional na talaga, naiyak na rin ako kasi siyempre ito yung lagi kong naririnig na pangalan–– siya pala yung tunay kong nanay. Parang bumalik ako sa pagkabata kahit hindi ko siya nakilala, ayun na yun eh.”

The singer acknowledged that their relationship today is not perfect but is grounded in mutual understanding.

“Okay naman kami. Yun lang, alam ko naman na naiintindihan na nila kung minsan hindi ako nagre-reply,” she said with a gentle laugh.

A life that keeps moving forward

Today, Angeline continues forging ahead—both as an artist and as a mother herself. She is set to star in the upcoming film Ang Happy Homes ni Diane Hilario, where she plays the titular role. The movie opens in cinemas nationwide on December 3.

Her life story, marked by loss, rescue, and reconciliation, reflects the very soul of every power ballad she sings: bruised, hopeful, and defiantly full of heart.
