PCO chief: ‘Big fish’ in flood control probe to be caught soon

Secretary Dave Gomez of the Presidential Communications Office (PCOO) said he believes "big fishes" linked to the anomalous flood control scandal will soon face charges.

He cited the recent arrests in Oriental Mindoro as “just one case in the pool of cases” and said more high-profile individuals will be charged soon.

“Marami pa isasampa in the next few days at sigurado ako kasama na diyan yung mag big fishes,” Gomez said in an interview with DZRH.

Gomez noted that a case has now been filed against former Ako Bicol Rep. Zaldy Co, whom he referred to as “the whale” — the most involved and the one who allegedly garnered the largest amount of money.

He added that more cases are expected before Christmas, reflecting President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s promise to hold perpetrators accountable by the holiday.

“Pinangako ng pangulo mapapakulong bago mag pasok nagsimula na yung processo nakapag sampa na ng kaso sa sandigan bayan ang ombudsman, at nakapagrelease na ng maraming arrest warrants at may mga nahuli na tayo,” he said.

“Itong huling kasong sinampa may isang malaking balyena na tayong kinasuhan si Rep. Zaldy Co, marami pa, marami pa sa darating na araw bago mag pasko,” he added.

Gomez said that, with the second installment of the Trillion Peso March, he empathizes with the public’s anger and impatience, assuring that the government is committed to catching the “big fish” and holding them accountable.

“Ramdam namin yung galit nila, ramdam din namin yung pagkainip. Kaisa namin sila dito at ginagarantiha namin na we will not disappoint them,” he said.
