The Land Transportation Office–National Capital Region (LTO–NCR) on Tuesday reported that it recorded 809 apprehensions in November as part of its intensified road safety enforcement campaign.

The operations were led by the Regional Law Enforcement Unit (RLEU) under the supervision of LTO Assistant Secretary and concurrent LTO–NCR Regional Director Markus V. Lacanilao, and the leadership of RLEU Chief Carl Ortega. Several of the apprehended vehicles were impounded at the LTO Central Office.

Violations included nine colorum vehicles; 67 vehicles with expired registration and considered unregistered; 364 violations under Republic Act 4136 (Land Transportation and Traffic Code); nine under RA 8794 (Anti-Overloading Act); 423 under RA 8750 (Seatbelt Use Act); 68 under RA 10054 (Motorcycle Helmet Act); one under Presidential Decree 96 (regulating the use of sirens and blinkers); and 30 motor vehicles impounded.

Of the 67 unregistered vehicles, 29 were classified as luxury units, including four BMWs, two Porsches, a Mazda, a Toyota Land Cruiser, a Mercedes-Benz, and a Land Rover.

Verification also confirmed that nine suspected colorum vehicles had no valid franchise, including a bus used for a student field trip, which the LTO said posed a major safety risk because such vehicles do not undergo proper inspection.

“Colorum and unregistered motor vehicles are serious violations and are considered impoundable offenses,” Lacanilao said.

He added that enforcement operations will intensify throughout December, one of the heaviest travel periods of the year.
