BAGUIO CITY — John Hay Golf made a strong statement at the 75th Fil-Am Invitational Golf Tournament, storming to the top of Fil-A Seniors after outplaying co-host Baguio Country Club (BCC) on its own turf on Monday here.
The team fired 81 points on Day 4 at Camp John Hay, boosting their three-day total to 278.
Dai Tsuchiya led the charge with 22 points, backed by retired police general Villamor Bumanglag’s 21, and a pair of 19s from Dr. Bayani Tecson and Santiago Enginco.
Baguio Blue Bloods also posted a flight-best 81 but settled for second with 272, just six shots behind, thanks to a standout performance from lawyer Rudy Lockey (25) and Manny Solis (21). BCC, which had led the first two days, slipped to third after struggling with a 68.
FODC Team stayed within striking distance at 262, keeping the race competitive and preventing an all-Baguio top three — for now.
In Am-A Seniors, it was all about the big scorers. The Young Ones blasted 90 points to tie Moto at 240. Elmer Sagadraca paced the charge with 26, supported by Victor Salinas (23) and Edilberto Endel Pasumbal (21). Moto leaned on Philex Mining executive Eulalio Austin, who fired 27 points to stay level at the top.
Meanwhile, Tigermade Maagir made the day’s biggest leap with a flight-best 97, jumping to 232, overtaking Baguio Beans, which struggled with 69 for 223.
In Fil-D Seniors, A1/MGC opened its BCC stint with 70 points for a 255 total, stretching its lead to 16 points. Ramon Ocampo shot 25, with Arsenio Madriaga adding 17 and both Gabriel Javelosa and Edward Isidro contributing 14s.
Abetamu holds second at 239, while BCC Too slid further after a rough 47. LMG Golf Cabanatuan made the biggest leap in the division, firing a flight-best 76 to reach 218, anchored by Xerxes Cortel’s 27. They would have been closer to the leaders if not for a two-point penalty on Day 2.
Fil-F Seniors continues to be Sandigan Golfers 1’s domain. They managed 53 points on the tricky BCC layout for a 201 total, keeping them comfortably in front despite a sluggish round and an earlier penalty. Crizaldo Nieves led the way with 17, supported by Nieves Jr. (13) and Howard Jess Mijares (12). Jasper gained ground with 55 for 189, while Hillsiders remained in contention at 187.
